Personally I’d like to know why black people aren’t offended by the phrase “people of colour”. When I grew up in the 1970's, we called all the folk who didn’t have white skins “coloured people”. They quite rightly objected to this phrase which lumped them all into a category of <not white> and all the associated connotations that that had.

So, why has “people of colour”, which is just an alternative of “coloured people” resurfaced and been accepted by people who are not white? It seems a backward step to me.

I’d love your input on this Ajah — please help me understand it.
