I’m starting a new job soon and I’m slightly nervous about the expectations my bosses will have, how I can live up to them, and be a valuable team member from the start. To me, it makes a lot of sense to research not only my role, but the roles of the people working different jobs and areas around me, in order to understand the big picture and be of more use.

And I love your idea of making notes and turning it into a document that can be used as a crib sheet to help me in the first few months, and then be handed on to my replacement when I move into another role.
